[asom] Bangladeshi propaganda about Assam
i chanced upon an article in globalpolitician.com apparently written by a Bangladeshi
weblink is- http://www.globalpolitician.com/2845-bangladesh-india
the article is wholly a propaganda trying to prove the Bangladeshi immigrants as Natives of Assam. interestingly, i have noticed the same sentiments among the immigrant bangladeshis (both legal and illegal) i have met.
**"Muslims were about 40% when Assam was merged with India in 1947. Their sizeable presence was in existence even before the advent of the British. Muslims were never infiltrators in Assam."**
- this is a popular argument put always by their side (bangladeshis, infiltrated bangladeshis and friends of illegal bangladeshis) which they use effectively with people unaware of pre-independence Assam. (somebody should enquire and make it public - How much was the % if we dont consider Sylhate and Mymensing).
**"The Muslims of today in Assam are not immigrant or outsiders, rather most of them are the sons of the soil. After fall of Gurgobinda in the 14th century, many Ahom people adjoining Sylhet converted to Islam."**
- cleverly trying to pull our Assamese Muslims to their side!!
**"The descendants of these Muslims now form 30% of the total population of Assam. These descendants of those Bengali speaking Muslims forgot their language and culture, but not their religion. This new generation Muslims of Assam feel pride to identify themselves Ahoms, treat Assam as their motherland, use Ahomiya language in their daily life, send their children to schools where Ahomiya is the medium of instruction. Other than their religious activities they are hundred per cent Ahoms."**
- we are fooled by them for decades with that claim. somebody should make documentary or TV report in this subject what is the actual situation in Hojai, Nilbagan and Interior Chhar areas of Dhuburi and Barpeta.
**" Moreover, India erected barbed wire fence along every possible point of 272km-long Assam-Bangladesh border. Heavy security forces have been deployed in those hilly areas where India could not yet erect the fence. Observation towers and posts are seen after every 500 yards. Not even a rat, not to speak of a human being, can enter Assam hoodwinking BSF and other Indian paramilitary forces."**
**"The Bangladeshis cannot leave for Assam leaving their country. The minimum daily net income of a rickshaw driver in Dhaka City is not less than $3. A labourer of any rural area earns at least $2, while his 4-member family can live easily spending one dollar.
Rather Anand will see one Indian out of every 10-rickshaw drivers in the street of Dhaka." **
**"Let us be good neighours and follow the art of live and let live. Let the Muslims of Assam and India live in peace and contribute to the development where they live in."**
- if only the wish was in true sense........
LET US COUNTER SUCH PROPAGANDAS IN THE WEB AS WELL AS ON PRINTING MEDIA AND TELEVISION.

The appointment of the former Indian Army chief Gen. Joginder Jaswant Singh (retired) as the governor of Arunachal Pradesh state on Jan. 24, 2008 has raised some vital questions in the minds of the conscious citizens of the Northeast. The former Indian Army chief, Mr Singh retired last year and has now been sworn in as Arunachal Pradesh's governor by the Indian President Ms Pratibha Patil.
Mr Singh, who was honoured with Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) during his four decades service in Indian Army, has joined two serving Governors in the insurgency stricken Northeast India, who are also from the Indian Army background.

HOW POLITICS AND POLITICAL PROMISES WORK

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.
The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50 each! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy the monkeys on behalf of him.
In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at
all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will
sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."
The villagers rounded up with all their cash plus savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man nor his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere!
Now you have a better understanding of how politics and the stock market works.

Tribals in Assam
Hi! Palash,
This is in response to your blog regarding the Tribals in Assam and their demand for their ST status. I was glad to read your piece and also to discover that there are people who are conscious about the situation. Am glad that you wrote on it because there has been no positive response from the state or from the other vigilant people. The situation of these tea-tribals is no less than of a dog who is "na ghar ka, na ghat ka."(they are nowhere as they do not officially belong to their home-state nor the present-state where they are) I feel so helpless as i can do nothing but silently watch and read the horrror on T.V. and in newspapers.
Is there something that can be done? That can transform our concern into something constructive.
I would like to know your opinion on it. Waiting for your reply.
Thanks,
Shashi Tigga

More Islamophobic remarks from Labour MP
11/02/2008
In a sensationalist article in the Sunday Times, Labour Minister Phil Woolas described many Muslims, many of his own constituents, as "inbreds". He claims that amongst Muslims "a lot of arranged marriages are with first cousins, and that produces lots of genetic problems in terms of disability."
Woolas has form in this department. In October 2006 he called for the sacking of Aishah Azmi for wearing the veil at school whilst working as a teaching assistant. He claimed that because Ms Azmi would only remove her veil in front of women, not men, she was guilty of sexual discrimination.
Oliur Rahman, chair of Respect and GLA list candidate in the forthcoming May elections, said "Phil Woolas is known to make unwarranted and racist comments. He angers Muslims and claims to know and understand our community, but he doesn't. He should keep his mouth shut about issues he knows nothing about."
Woolas has a problem with Muslims, and there are many Muslims in his constituency. Perhaps they would be best advised not to elect him again. Respect candidates in council and Greater London Assembly elections across the country are proud to stand against Islamophobia and refuse to go along with the mainstream in demonising a religion for populist appeal.

Action Alert NO to Israels celebrations in Britain!
Action Alert NO to Israels celebrations in Britain!
Supporters of the state of Israel are planning its 60th Birthday celebrations around the world. The Palestinians are also marking this day as the 60th anniversary of the Nakba the catastrophe that cost them their homeland and made them refugees for 6 decades. The brutal occupation continues and every day, Palestinians continue to be killed by the Israeli army who shows little consideration for life and property.
Israel s planned celebrations include:
1. A JNF funded charity dinner at Windsor Castle
2. An international friendly football game against Manchester United, in Israel
Israel continues in its occupation of Palestinian land. Its building of illegal settlements means that a future Palestinian state is no longer viable. Israel has built a separation wall within the West Bank cutting many Palestinians off from Jerusalem , and imprisoning others on the Israeli side. The death toll continues to rise. Israel must to brought to justice for its War Crimes, and its celebrations must be challenged. Israel is in breach of UN Resolutions, Geneva Convention and International law.
TAKE ACTION
Help lobby the following people/organisations:
1. Her Majesty, The Queen
The Jewish National Fund is a racist organisation which owns land in the state of Israel, a lot of which it refuses to lease or sell to any non-Jews. This is both discriminatory and racist. The JNF also helps develop Israels illegal settlements in the West Bank, which exist today in defiance of international law.
- Write a letter to Her Majesty, The Queen, requesting that they withdraw their permission to the JNF to use Windsor Castle to host its celebratory dinner.
- Include the following points:
o The JNF is a racist organisation which discriminates against Arabs and Palestinians.
o The JNF assists the state of Israel in committing War Crimes against the Palestinian people.
o It is unacceptable for the British Monarchy to support the state of Israel in its celebrations when the Palestinian have suffered for 60 long years, and continue to suffer daily, a life of oppression, occupation and brutality. We expect our Monarch to remain impartial in the circumstances.
o For these reason, we find it unacceptable that the JNF be given access to Windsor Castle .
Address: Her Majesty The Queen, Buckingham Palace, London, SW1A 1AA.
2. Manchester United
Israel has issued an invitation to Manchester United Football club to play in an international friendly match in Israel to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
- Lobby the Manchester United Football team, and ask them to refuse Israel s invitation. Include the following points:
o Israel is an occupying power who has made the lives of the Palestinian people miserable for the past 60 years.
o Israel restrict the movement of Palestinians and has even barred Palestinian football team to travel abroad.
o Israel has regularly bombed Palestinian football stadium.
o Israel s occupation is illegal, and it has been condemned by the United Nations on dozens of occasions because of its war crimes.
o Israel has been responsible for initiating at least three wars in the region leading to thousands of deaths.
o Israel is only a democracy for its Jewish citizens, and all others are treated in a discriminatory fashion, leading to criticisms of Apartheid like practices.
o Israel s 60th birthday marks 60 years since the Palestinian Nakba or catastrophe, and we cannot accept that a British football team would aid in the celebration of the misery of 8 million Palestinians.

Jewish Identity Can't Depend on Violence
Jewish Identity Can't Depend on Violence
Jewish identity in the past has been locked into the holocaust experience -- a German burden that the Jews have not been able to shed. It is a very good example of a community can overplay a historic experience to the point that it begins to repulse friends. The holocaust was the result of the warped mind of an individual who was able to influence his followers into doing something dreadful. But, it seems to me the Jews today not only want the Germans to feel guilty but the whole world must regret what happened to the Jews. The world did feel sorry for the episode but when an individual or a nation refuses to forgive and move on the regret turns into anger.
The Jewish identity in the future appears bleak. Any nation that remains anchored to the past is unable to move ahead and, especially a nation that believes its survival can only be ensured by weapons and bombs. In Tel Aviv in 2004 I had the opportunity to speak to some Members of Parliament and Peace activists all of whom argued that the wall and the military build-up was necessary to protect the nation and the people. In other words, I asked, you believe that you can create a snake pit -- with many deadly snakes in it -- and expect to live in the pit secure and alive? What do you mean? they countered. Well, with your superior weapons and armaments and your attitude towards your neighbors would it not be right to say that you are creating a snake pit? How can anyone live peacefully in such an atmosphere? Would it not be better to befriend those who hate you? Can you not reach out and share your technological advancement with your neighbors and build a relationship?
Apparently, in the modern world, so determined to live by the bomb, this is an alien concept. You don't befriend anyone, you dominate them. We have created a culture of violence (Israel and the Jews are the biggest players) and that Culture of Violence is eventually going to destroy humanity.

Arun Gandhi is the fifth grandson of India’s legendary leader, Mohandas K. “Mahatma” Gandhi. He is president and co-founder of the M. K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, now at the University of Rochester in New York.

Desperately Seeking a Really Cold War
Joanne Landy and Thomas Harrison say we should be afraid, very afraid, of "a new Cold War between the United States and Russia":
The planned 'missile defense' system in the Czech Republic and Poland will, if implemented, further increase the danger to human and all other forms of life that nuclear weapons pose, significantly expand U.S. military power, and contribute to a new Cold War between the United States and Russia. But it can be stopped. Its dangers are obvious and easy to demonstrate, and it is deeply unpopular among the citizens of the 'host' countries. Stopping it will, however, require action by American peace organizations, to strengthen our friends in the Czech Republic and Poland, to pressure our elected representatives, and to educate public opinion in this country. ("Pushing Missile Defense in Europe," Foreign Policy in Focus, 22 February 2008)
Any thinking person who cares about the Iranian people, however, should welcome a really cold war between Russia and the USA. It is Moscow's distrust of the US intentions, as well as the Chinese need for Iranian oil for its industrialization project, that has so far helped mitigate US-led efforts to economically sanction Iran and helped protect Iranians from the worst military threat from the US-EU-Japan axis of evil.
What can doom Iran is a warm friendship between Russia and the USA.
The silly US attempt to install a "missile defense" system (which, by the way, doesn't work and is just a big waste of money) in Eastern Europe, as well as its support for the independence of Kosovo, "color revolutions" in Russia's periphery, and media propaganda against Russia itself, is a godsend as far as Iranians are concerned, for it prevents Russia from becoming a partner in the US-led multinational empire.

Kosovo today: Aztlan tomorrow?
Reminiscing on recent history
-----------------------------------------
The following news bulletin was forwarded by the Brown
Berets back on April 18, 1999, some 8 years ago:
La Raza: "Hell No We Won't Go" to the Kosovo War!
From the Brown Berets
18 April 1999
Estimada Raza:
The Pentagon is calling up 33,000 reservists and the next step will be to re-institute the "involuntary draft." Last week the Secretary of the Army Luis Caldera, a Clinton Chicano lackey, was already stomping the barrios of Aztlan recruiting grunt's for the war. Caldera, a former California Assemblyman who's campaign literature showed a picture of him dressed as a "Cub Scout", is selling out La Raza in return for his political appointment by Clinton.
The Nation of Aztlan recently published an article outlining the historical inequality of La Raza in the U.S. Armed forces including the reason for the creation of the American G.I. Forum by Dr. Hector P. Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas. They also outlined the shabby treatment of Chicano soldiers by the U.S. Veteran Administration after the war. Raza, there is no reason to enlist or be allowed to be drafted by the Gringo War Machine when our people are suffering so many injustices here at home.
Occupation police forces here in Aztlan are still shooting our young carnales in the back and the incarceration rate of our young men is at all time high. This is are pure and simple indirect measures of population control of La Raza. If you imprison the most virile of our young men or kill them off in war, then you will have a most effective way of keeping our population in check as is
being advocated by Anti-Immigration groups.
The doors of higher education are being shut close in our faces by the same forces that want to send you to an Imperialist War in foreign lands against people that have done nothing against La Raza. You in essence will be fighting on the side of your own oppressors. We have much work to do here at home to liberate Aztlan from Imperialist exploiters who are beating up and jailing our young people daily. We have much work to do here at home to reform an educational system that is pushing out our young people into the street to become prey for either drug pushers or the brutal police authorities.
Raza....if they call on you to fight their war....say: "hell no, we won't go. Our real war is here in the streets of occupied Aztlan!"
