Vali Nasr, Featured Guest at PAAIA Reception for Iranian American Congressional and Administration Staff
May 11, 2010, Washington, D.C. - The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) held its bi-annual reception for Iranian Americans who work for members of Congress and the Executive Branch on May 7, 2010. The event, held at the home of Mr. Robert Babayi, was a huge success with over fifty guests in attendance. The guests, who also included Iranian Americans working for government consulting firms and nonprofit organizations, got a chance to mingle and network with one another in an intimate setting.

Maryland Governor's Commission on Middle Eastern Affairs Seeks Iranian American Participation
On October 11, 2007, Governor Martin O'Malley signed an Executive Order to create the Governor's Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs. The Commission was created to address the need for State agencies to respond effectively to the needs and concerns of Maryland citizens with ancestral heritage in Middle Eastern countries.

PAAIA Congratulates Iranian American Recipients of the 2010 Ellis Island Medal of Honor
May 10, 2010, New York, NY - On May 8, 2010 seven Iranian Americans received the Ellis Island Medal for outstanding achievement in their personal and professional lives, preservation of their culture and heritage, and noteworthy citizenship to the United States.
Established in 1986 by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor is an annual tribute to the ancestry groups that comprise America's unique cultural mosaic. The institution is sanctioned by the U.S. Congress and the recipients' names are listed in the Congressional Record which include six U.S. presidents and several Nobel Prize winners.

When it comes to professional and career choices, the honorable option of attending law school, medical school, or dental school serve as a top choice for not only the kids but also their parents. MIT, Harvard, Stanford and UCLA are all full of brilliant Iranian Americans who are huge assets to our community at large; but the US army, West Point, and then a PhD? Many would go to England or Spain to study abroad, but a career in Foreign Service?
Meet a PAAIA NexGEN founding member, Amir Bagherpour, a 29-year-old Iranian American who defying all the stereotypes has given us a new standard that re-defines success, enthusiasm and altruism. I sat down with him in Orange County and invited him to a Q&A session.

Iranian American Nita Farahany Appointed to the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues
May 11, 2010, Washington D.C. On April 7, 2010, Iranian American Nita Farahany was appointed to the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues by President Barack Obama. The commission advises the President on bioethical issues that may emerge from advances in biomedicine and related areas of science and technology. The commission works to identify and promote policies and practices that ensure scientific research, health care delivery, and technological innovation are conducted in an ethical manner.

NexGen OC Hosts Successful Networking Mixer

May 4, 2010, Orange County, CA - Last week the Orange County NexGenners hosted another successful networking mixer at Port Restaurant in Corona Del Mar. The evening's featured artist, Sina Araghi, showcased his photography from Iran. Later, Dr. Alireza Tafazzoli shared his photos and spoke about his expereinces with Doctors Without Borders.
