Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh
Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh has reportedly requested asylum from Saudi Arabia after announcing he will step down by the end of the year.


On Monday night, Saleh told Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz during a telephone conversation that he will be forced to give up power and requested him and his family's asylum to Saudi Arabia, nahrainnet reported.

Earlier Tuesday, Saleh had expressed his willingness to step down by the year's end to prepare a peaceful transfer of power in the impoverished Arab nation.

At least five Palestinians, including four children, have been killed and 20 wounded after an Israeli tank fired shots at a home in the Gaza Strip, medics reported.

Israeli warplanes at a late hour Monday bombed civilian areas in the densely-populated Gaza Strip wounding 18 Palestinians, mostly children and women, and inflicting considerable damage on property.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Spokesman for the emergency and ambulance authority Adham Abu Salmiya told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that the hospitals received 18 casualties including seven children and six women, 11 of them were taken to Al-Shafa hospital and the others to Kamal Adwan hospital.

Last night, Israeli aerial attacks were waged on densely-populated area in Khan Younis, south of Gaza, destroying homes and a mosque.

Warplanes also bombed Abdel Aziz Al-Rantissi police site in Al-Tu'am area, northwest of Gaza city which led to its destruction and the injury of a number of Palestinians, a security source told the PIC.

Iran's Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Thursday that the region's nations would achieve victory against arrogant powers and warned against plots to undermine the Islamic Revolution.

Speaking during a meeting with the head and members of Iran's Assembly of Experts on Thursday, Sayyed Khamenei vowed that corrupted and arrogant powers and the US will suffer a defeat. "Not only corrupted and despotic rulers but the United States and other world powers with an aggressive nature will finally suffer a defeat by nations and God's promises will come true," his eminence stressed.

The spiritual leader of the Islamic Revolution pointed to the failure of enemies with regard to the appointment of the new Assembly of Experts Head Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani. "They expected that a difference will be caused among members of the Assembly of Experts," Sayyed Khamenei said.

Referring to great achievements of the Iranian nation and officials, as well as Iran's expedited pace towards progress over last year dubbed "The Year of Double Efforts and Double works" by the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei named this new year as the year of Economic Jihad (or Economic Endeavor).

"Ones accomplishing such great feats have high morale and self-confidence and such groups are the real assets that a country possesses," his eminence said.
