Dear Friends,

Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and UGC sponsored Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) of SNDT WomenⳠUniversity has undertaken an action research to study the implementation of protective measures aimed at securing rights and entitlements of Scheduled Casts in Maharashtra. The study highlights the role of statutory commissions, particularly State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), State Scheduled Caste Commission (SSCC) and State Legislative Assembly Committee on Welfare of SCs in ensuring such rights in the state.

In this context, we are jointly organizing a one-day state level dialogue on Role of Statutory Commissions in Ensuring Dalit Rights on 30th November 2011 as per the details given above. The aim of this one day programme is to deliberate upon the status of implementation of protective measures for dalits and roles of state commissions/institutions therein.

This dialogue is an effort to bring together various stake holders - civil society organizations, researchers, academicians, dalit community leaders and most importantly the victims of atrocities to introspect and discuss collectively for bringing in new insights and practical solutions for making the existence of these institutions more relevant and meaningful.

We request you to kindly participate in the consultation and enrich the discussions there.

We look forward to your confirmation and supports.
