Indian Railways Team Shines at the USIC International Shooting Championship held at Krakow, Poland

New Delhi: September 2, 2010.

 

Indian Railways has once again brought laurels to the nation in the sports arena when its team stood 2nd in the prestigious 14th USIC (Union of International Railways) International Shooting Championship which was held in Krakow (Poland) from 23rd to 27th August, 2010.  The teams and players of Indian Railways, which is now lead partner in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games-2010, have been winning many medals and championships in the field of sports and games both at national and international levels.

 

The Indian Railways team overall secured 8345 points out of 9000 and stood 2nd.  France won by a margin of 7 points only.  Indian Railways beat Germany by 20 points.

 

The Indian Railway team consisted of 12 players besides one coach, one Manager along with Chef-de-Mission. 

 

The Indian  Railway team stood 1st  and  obtained Team Gold in 3 events namely Air Rifle 10M,   Air Pistol 10M and  .22 Rifle 3-Position 50M.  In the remaining other two events, namely, .22 Pistol 25M and .22 Rifle Prone 50M, Indian Railways team ranked 8th.

 

In the individual category, two Indian Railway players ranked 1st namely, Anuja Jung in Air Rifle and Vishwajeet Shinde in Rifle 3-Position. Two Indian Railway players stood 3rd namely, Ashok Karande in Air Rifle and Yogesh Sudake in Air Pistol.

 

In the last USIC championship held at Zurich in Switzerland in 2006, Indian Railways ranked 5th.
