Update on the ongoing campaign against malnourished children and infant mortality

Greetings from Samajika Parivarthana Janandolana, SPJ.

Now women and child welfare department and health department have started to trace the actual statistics of malnourished children. This process only help us to know the exact number of malnourished children in the state.

Earlier the department of women and child welfare has identified only 564 severely under weight children in the Devadurga taluk of Raichur district and after fresh resurvey this number has been jumped to 1,603. 

This department officials have made a statement that, National Egg Co-ordination Commitee and Karnataka Milk Federation will provide egg and 200 ml milk for these children, for a period of 2 months.

We are demanding this provision across the state and this supply should go on until the child becomes healthy.

Mean while print and electronic media are extending their fullest support for this on going campaign.AGNI, a leading Kannada Weekly, VAARTHA BHARATHI and PRAJA VAANI, Kannada dailies have published my article.

SPJ currently addressing this issue at various levels aliong with like minded organisations and indivisuals.

ಈ ಸಾವು ನ್ಯಾಯವೇ?

ರಾಯಚೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ದೇವದುರ್ಗ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಮಲ್ಲದೇವರಗುಡ್ಡದ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮಲ್ಲಮ್ಮ ಎನ್ನುವ ದಂಪತಿಗಳ 2 ವರ್ಷದ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಗು ಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಹಾಗೂ 5 ವರ್ಷದ ಗಂಡು ಮಗು ಆಂಜನೇಯ ಕಳೆದ ಒಂದೂವರೆ ತಿಂಗಳ ಅಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ದಿನಾಂಕ 23.10.11ರಂದು ಭಾನುವಾರ ಇದೇ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ನಾಗರಾಜ್ ಎನ್ನುವ 15 ವರ್ಷದ ಬಾಲಕ ಸಾವಿಗೀಡಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಚಿನ್ನದ ನಾಡು, ಭತ್ತದ ಕಣಜ ಎಂದೇ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ರಾಯಚೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಾವಿನ ಗಣಿಯಾಗಿ ಮಾರ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. 2009ರಲ್ಲಿ 811ಮಕ್ಕಳು, 2010ರಲ್ಲಿ 1233 ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮತ್ತು 2011 ಜನವರಿಯಿಂದ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ ತಿಂಗಳ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 645 ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟಿವೆ.ಪೌಷ್ಟಿಕ ಆಹಾರದ ಕೊರತೆಯೇ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಾವಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ರಾಯಚೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮಹಿಳಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಅಂಕಿ-ಅಂಶಗಳೇ ದೃಢ ಪಡಿಸಿವೆ.ಇದೊಂದೇ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 4531 ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತೀವ್ರ ಅಪೌಷ್ಟಿಕತೆಯಿಂದ ನರಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆಂದು ಸ್ವತಃ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳೇ ಒಪ್ಪಿ ಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
