The MSM and the Left proclaimed the British model best as it produced
less open conflict and battles. When it came time for the Iraqi
government to assert authority over Barasa and ending Sadr's militia
rule however, the British approach failed... It had however kept Sadr
in check until the Iraqi government was strong enough to take Sadr on
directly...
The British approach assumed less conflict over time would speed
reconcilliation. The American approach assumed the fight had to be
won on the battlefield... Unsurprisingly, both approaches were
required... Where the MSM failed was in their felt need to "declare
history's judgment" and present narrative rather than facts...
History will show both methods were effective in their own ways in
fighting for the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people... This lesson
however will be rejected by both the LW and RW today because of the
vested emotions in "proving" the other side wrong...
