Rule of minimum age for a child to enter into a formal school violated - Social Jurist, A Civil Rights Group through Advocate Ashok Agarwal has today filed a contempt petition in the Delhi High Court against the Delhi Chief Secretary Shri Rakesh Mehta as the Government of Delhi has deliberately and intentionally disobeyed the directions of the Delhi High Court dated 26.09.2007 having been given in W.P.(C) No.12490 of 2006. According to the High Court directions, the minimum age for a child to enter into a formal school in Delhi from the academic year 2008-2009 shall be 4 plus years and the duration of pre-primary class shall be one year only and the same should be class immediately prior to class I. The Government of Delhi is still permitting all the unaided private schools in Delhi to continue with the unjust, illegal and cruel practice of running 2 years of pre-primary classes and admitting children of 3 plus yrs age instead of one year of pre-primary class and admitting children of 4 plus yrs. Hearing on the petition is likely on 23.12.2010.
