ManmohanPrime Minister Manmohan Singh also expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the attacks.

Emphasising that 'barbaric' attacks like the one in Samba and Kathua on Thursday morning will not come in the way of finding a resolution to issues through the process of dialogue, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made it clear that his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif is on track even as he condemned 'enemies of peace' for the incident.

Singh, who made a stopover in Frankfurt on his way to New York was briefed on the attack in the morning and made a statement within hours. "We are firmly resolved to combat and defeat the terrorist menace that continues to receive encouragement and reinforcement from across the border. Such attacks will not deter us and will not succeed in derailing our efforts to find a resolution to all problems through a process of dialogue," he said.

It may be noted that peace talks had come under attack after the killing of five army jawans in a cross border raid on August 5. While regular conversations on bilateral issues that had been planned did no go through after the attack, the government still decided on a meeting with Sharif that is scheduled to take place in New York on Sunday. Government sources said that the meeting will be used to convey concerns on cross border violence and terrorism. The feeling is that the attacks have been carried out by those elements across the border that do not believe in peace.
