Joshy, see below. Please read, spread the word, and sign.

Yours,
Amit

Apologies for the mass email, but this is to inform you of developments about a campaign launched in May to do with the destruction of Calcutta's architectural inheritance. Two letters, signed by fifteen signatories including myself, along with a letter of support from Amartya Sen, were sent to the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

This piece came out on 2nd July in the 'Cities' section of the Guardian website: http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2015/jul/02/calcutta-architecture-heritage-destruction-city-campaign-amit-chaudhuri

It's about the campaign, and contains, I hope, a thorough statement of a position that we, the signatories, all concur on. Importantly, it has, at the end, a link to a just-activated public community page on avaaz.org, done at the Guardian's suggestion, and also created because a lot of people have asked me how they could join the campaign.

Here's the link to the petition: www.avaaz.org/calcutta

Please do give this some serious thought, sign if you think the matter has merit, and, importantly, circulate as widely as possible. It's important that this public petition, now that it's been created, succeed. Once this architecture and these buildings go, they go, and there are only so many ways and moments through which we can try to change what's happening.

Many thanks,
Amit
