NACDOR SHIKSHA ABHIYAAN (NACDOR Education Campaign) Launched in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh

15th May 2010 Rewa. National Confederation of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR) launched its Education Campaign with a two day-kick off workshop held in Neelkanth Guest House in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. Pledging to ensure that every child of the socially excluded Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes or the Dalits accomplish his or her Right to Education, NACDOR Shiksha Abhiyaan will be led by 30 member strong team of grass root Dalit leaders. Being born among the Dalits and Adivasis, these NACDOR leaders have led NACDOR's movement for justice and dignity in Rewa district.

In two day workshop, Dalit and Adivasi grass root leader explain how school system is unable to deliver the Right to Education to the Children of Dalits and Adivasis. Most of the schools in rural area do not have adequate infrastructure. Teacher's absenteeism discourages children to go to school. It is a common practice for the children to travel kilometers to reach to the school find no teachers there. Teachers often discourage them in many words. Discrimination is rampant and capital punishment is general. NACDORs' grass root leaders, who had opportunity to get education in such adverse conditions have come forward to take the task of getting every child of their community into school through long term mass campaign, which these leaders themselves has named as NACDOR Shiksha Abhiyaan.

NACDOR Shiksha Abhiyaan (NSA) will organise Shiksha Adhikar Yatra (Right to Education March), Shiksha Melas (Education Fete) and mobilise socially excluded sections and their out of school children fore the completion of not only elementary but the higher secondary education. NSA will motivate the parents and children and sensitized teachers to fulfill their obligation as teachers. NSA will engage with the Panchayats to effectively administer education through the School Education Committee, If necessary, People's Committee for Monitoring Quality Education will be formed..Based on the experience and case studies, educational authorities and government will be contacted for necessary policy and practice change.
