More research indicates a gluten-free diet may play a role in solving infertility. Late last month the journal Fertility Sterility published a case report of a 30-year old woman diagnosed with primary infertility (a term that describes couples who have not been able to become pregnant after at least 1 year of unprotected sex). Upon presentation, the female patient was found to have anemia and a high tTG. She was then diagnosed with celiac disease after undergoing a biopsy and immediately began a gluten-free diet.  Eight months later the patient became pregnant. The authors concluded that patients with infertility and unexplained anemia should be tested for celiac disease.
