In Search of Children’s Theatre

Dear Palashbabu

Nandikar – beyond its Performative activities and sundry other theatre actions – has been engaged, since 1989, in Theatre with/for the Children.

In a small way, Nandikar has acted children-friendly, so have other innumerable individuals/organizations espoused the children’s cause.

Yet all our children – angels with invisible wings – remain clueless. An overwhelming number are deprived of everything they have a right to, including culture, and virtually denied their childhood. Others are lured by the gospel of number game or brand name. And the global entertainment industry worth 1.8 trillion dollars has no use for the children other than using them as its baits.

Now is the time for all those who cherish the cause of the children and nourish the child within – to come together and try to discover a road map for ‘Children’s Theatre’.

We all know, given a chance, theatre can make our children blossom into individuals and facilitate their growth into responsible ‘agents of the future’.

To compare notes, permit us to invite you to a Press Meet at Federation Hall (294/2/1, A P C Road, Kolkata-700 009/Opp. Rajabazar Science College) on July 16, 2008 at 5-30 PM. Do please come !

Do please come.

Yours truly,

Rudraprasad Sengupta

This is certainly a gritty attempt on the part of Nandikar since this society is hostile towards the sustainable growth of drama. Its a challenge for us to overpower all impediments and harbor the genre of drama in a new destination. All my best wishes with my fellow brothers and sisters who have taken this initiative to imbibe the spirit of theater among the children.
