बिजनेस स्टैंडर्ड की पत्रकार और आईआईएमसी की छात्रा रही निरुपमा पाठक की झारखंड के तिलैया शहर में हुई हत्या की हम सबसे कड़े शब्दों में भर्त्सना करते हैं। 21वीं सदी के दूसरे दशक में पढ़े-लिखे, संभ्रांत होने का दावा करने वाले परिवारों में ऐसी घटनाओं का होना साबित करता है कि भारतीय समाज को सभ्य बनने और कहलाने के लिए अभी लंबा सफर तय करना है। निरुपमा पाठक का दोष सिर्फ इतना था कि वह अपनी पसंद से जीना चाहती थी और जीवनसाथी चुनने के हर वयस्क को प्राप्त वैधानिक अधिकार का इस्तेमाल करना चाहती थी। वह दिल्ली में एक साथी पत्रकार से प्रेम करती थी और उससे शादी की इजाजत मांगने परिजनों के पास गयी थी। लेकिन वर्णवादी व्यवस्था की नजर में ये इतना बड़ा अपराध है, जिसकी हत्या से छोटी कोई सजा नहीं है।

हम मांग करते हैं कि इस हत्या के दोषी निरुपमा के परिजनों को तत्काल गिरफ्तार किया जाए और उन्हें कड़ी से कड़ी सजा दिलाने के लिए जो भी संभव हो वह किया जाए। इस घटना को पहले करेंट लगने से हुई मौत और बाद में आत्महत्या बताने वाले सभी लोग संदेह के दायरे में हैं। आवश्यक है कि इस मामले की जांच निष्पक्षता से की जाए।
