IPL 2013: Mumbai beat Chennai to lift maiden IPL title

IPL spot-fixing: More players likely to be arrested after final?New Delhi: Three to four Indian Premier League (IPL) players are likely to be arrested after the final match being played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Kolkata`s Eden Gardens stadium, said Delhi police on Sunday.

The Delhi Police had launched a manhunt for these players just after the questioning of Mohammed Yahya alias Yusuf, 45, one of the bookies who was arrested on Friday morning from Hyderabad airport in connection with the IPL spot fixing scandal when he was trying to flee to Dubai.

A Delhi Police source said that Yahya revealed some names of the players who were also involved in the spot fixing.

"A team of Delhi Police has arrived in Kolkata," said the source, adding that police is also in search of some more punters and bookies who contacted the three arrested players of Rajasthan Royals - S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan.

"Now, we are in search of three to four players whose name came during the question of Yahya," another senior official associated with the probe revealed.

The official did not rule out the names of any foreign players but he did not expose the names of the players who are under Delhi Police`s scanner.

Till date, Delhi Police has arrested 19 people.

Chavan was sent to judicial custody Sunday by Saket court till June 4 after police told the court that he was not required for any further questioning by it. However, Sreesanth, Chandila and two bookies - Chandresh Patel and Ashwani alias Tipu - were sent to two days police custody.

Moments after Mumbai Indians won their first IPL title, Sachin Tendulkar announced he had played his last IPL. The last ball he played didn't come in the victory in the final, but a fortnight ago in a league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. That ball was sent over long-on for a six, but in the process Tendulkar also injured himself. He retired-hurt after that, and didn't recover in time to play another Mumbai game.

"This is my last IPL," Tendulkar announced casually in a TV interview after the win. "This has been a fantastic season. I thought our third IPL season was the best before this.

"I think this is the right time to stop playing the IPL. I am 40. Got to accept it. I had decided this was my last season."

Tendulkar had retired his ODI retirement towards the end of the last year. With the IPL retirement, it is unlikely he will play any more cricket other than first-class. India's next first-class assignment is towards when Ranji Trophy begins and India go to South Africa for a full tour.

The Mumbai Indians successfully defended a modest 148/9, to hold an error-prone Chennai batsmen to 125/9 and extract sweet revenge for their 22-run defeat to the same rivals in a summit clash three years back.

For Chennai, skipper M.S. Dhoni ploughed a lonely furrow (63 not out; 45 b 3x4 5x6), as he joined in the middle with half the side gone and only 36 on the board into the seventh over.

Dhoni began by playing cautiously, but hit three sixes in an attempt to turn the game, but in the end that was not enough.

The one-sided game, played before packed galleries at the iconic venue, saw the Chennai Super Kings batsmen mostly go out to poor shots, though opener Mike Hussey was unlucky to be at the wrong end of a beautiful yorker length delivery from Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga that swung back into the Australian.

Once Hussey got out, the floodgates were opened, and Malinga was on a hat-trick by claiming new man Suresh Raina with the next ball.

The Kings' woes continued, as S. Badrinath needlessly edged an offering wide outside the off stump from Mitchell Johnson. Inside two overs, Chennai were 3/3.

Opener Murali Vijay, seeing the procession from the other end, tried to rectify the damage in the company of Dwayne Bravo, but the Trinidadian departed after picking up some boundaries with lofted strokes.

Ravindra Jadeja fell to another soft dismissal without bothering the scorer, reducing Chennai to 36/5 in the seventh over.

Vijay (18), who earlier got a "life" when he was dropped on 14, went back in the very next over, worsening Chennai's position.

Earlier, backed by a spirited bowling and electric fielding, Chennai Super Kings restricted Mumbai Indians to a gettable total.

However, thanks to a quickfire unbeaten 60 from Kieron Pollard (32b 7x4 3x6), Mumbai recovered from a disastrous start to reach a position of respectability after opting to bat first.

Apart from Pollard's blitzkrieg, only Ambati Rayudu (37) and Dinesh Karthick (21) made useful contributions. For Chennai, Dwayne Bravo (4/44) was the most successful bowler followed by Albie Morkel (2/12).

The big match did not have exactly the sort of build up that one would have expected it to have.

The raging spot fixing scam seemed to have pushed into the background the on-field happenings as the scandal snared cricketers, an administrator and a small time Bollywood personality.

What is worse, as the game was on, there came reports that a Delhi police team was in the city and three to four IPL players were likely to be arrested after the final match.

Probe all IPL matches, demands former BCCI boss Manohar

New Delhi: Former BCCI president Shashank Manohar on Sunday urged the BCCI to hand over the investigations into the IPL spot-fixing scandal to a central investigative agency which will probe all the matches of the cash-rich league.

"BCCI must come clean in wake of the recent spot-fixing scandal. They must cleanse the system completely and a central investigative agency must look into the aspect during any or every tournament including international fixtures," Manohar said in an interview to a news channel on Sunday.

Manohar also advised that "every match of the sixth edition (before the final) should be probed. The call details of not only all the players but also the members of the support staff, officials should be tracked in order to carry out a smooth investigations."

Mumbai Indians Over: 20 II Score: 148/9

So final over of Mumbai innings and Bravo to shoulder the responsibility. On strike is new man Mitchell Johnson. OUT! And he has nicked the first ball from Bravo. Dhoni has taken it cleanly. Bravo is delighted! Johnson goes back for a duck. In walks Lasith Malinga. And he greets the Sri Lankan with a bouncer. OUT!Off the next, Bravo gets his fourth wicket after Malinga is caught by Dhoni after edging the third. In walks Pragyan Ojha. Pollard is livid. He is still off strike. Now, Ojha on strike. He somehow manages to steal a single largely thanks to Pollard who was already running as soon as the ball was delivered. And he shows why he wanted the strike so badly as he ends the innings with two powerful strokes for consecutive maximums! The first one straight over bowler's head while the next over long on. What a finish to the innings. An eventful over this from Bravo. 13 runs and two wickets in it.

Morris to bowl the penultimate over of Mumbai innings. A single to start with. Good thing for Mumbai is that Pollard has the strike now. He can only manage a single. He was looking for a second though but changes his mind for good. OUT! Rishi Dhawan is run out. He scored 3 (3b). Dhawan on strike and he completes a couple. They attempted a third as the Dhoni failed to collect the throw. However, a miscommunication between Pollard and Dhawan let the latter being run out at the bowler's end courtesy an alert fielding from Mohit Sharma. Six runs from the over.================================================================================

Off the third, Bhajji gets another thick inside edge and the ball again ends up crossing the fine leg fence. The next is full and outside off, Bhajji guides it to third man region for yet another boundary. He is turning the heat on! And OUT! Bhajji has been caught by Michael Hussey at sweeper cover. He scored 14 (8b, 4X3). He made some room and ended up playing it straight into the hands of Hussey. In walks Rishi Dhawan. And Pollard ends the over with a powerful stroke as the ball races past the bowler's end to the fence for another boundary. An expensive over from Bravo. 17 runs from it.

Dwayne Bravo into his second over. And straight after the time out, Bravo strikes! The first delivery of the 16th over and Rayudu's middle stump goes for a walk. Rayudu came down the ground and wanted to drive this through cover but the ball eluded him and he was cleaned up. The batsman is gutted as he walks back to the dug out after scoring 37 (36b, 4X4). In walks Harbhajan Singh who gets off the mark with a single off his first delivery. Bravo's third delivery is full and Pollard punches it hard and it races past the bowler for a boundary. That shot brings Dhoni to place a fielder at mid on - right from where Bravo begins his run up. The next is a slower one and gets hit on the unmentionables. He still manages to offer a smile but looks in some pain. Six runs from the over.

He ran quite a distance to save it but that still went to the boundary after a deflection. The next from Jadeja is outside off and Pollard swings his arms and gets another boundary. Not a very convincing shot though but he'll take it. A single off the sixth dleivery takes the score to 100-run mark. 10 runs from the over.
