Police lathi-charged and lobbed tear gas...
Sundeep Nayyar 7:23pm Apr 28
Police lathi-charged and lobbed tear gas shells on Thursday evening to disperse students who had held University Vice-Chancellor A K Singh hostage in his office for over 30 hours in protest against the university's decision to vacate all hostels on May 1.

While the V-C was rescued and sent home in police protection, the students pelted the police and the V-C office with stones, and torched vehicles in and around the campus.

The students had surrounded the V-C's office on Wednesday morning, asking him to withdraw the order to vacate hostels. They did not allow him to leave and the V-C had to spend the night in his office.
